2018 Presidential election: MINAT makes provisions to accredit observers

The Ministry of Territorial Administration, MINAT says it has made provisions to accredit national and international observers in view of the 2018 Presidential election.

The observation of elections is governed by section 266(1) of the Electoral code which states that  “Concerning the supersvision of the election and referendum process, Elections Cameroon may collaborate with accredited national and international observers.” This authorities at the Ministry say the are studying files of organisations that have applied and will sdeliver the accreditations in due course.

If the Ministry of Territorial Administration is working on the accreditation modalities of national observers, international observers can only be accredited by MINAT on recommendation from the Ministry of External Relations as provided for by paragraph 2 and 3 of Section 296(1) of the Electoral code.

MINAT and Elecam are charged with setting a code of conduct for the observers, an issue authoritessay they are already work in tandem with the elections management body.
