The Social Democratic Front wants the Senatorial election annulled in the South West region for fraud and irregularities.
According to the SDF, many councillors could not take part in the Senatorial elections in the region due to the security threats in some divisions.
“We want to protect the rights of Councillors who could not take part in Senatorial elections last Sunday in the Southwest Region, because the security situation in their Divisions, notably Lebialem and Kupemuanenguba, did not permit them exercise their civic rights,” the head of SDF’s senatorial list in the South West Region Prof. Kofele Kale list leader for the Southwest Constituency said to the press yesterday.
“We are therefore submitting a petition at the Constitutional Council, requesting the cancellation of Senatorial elections in the Southwest region”, Prof. Kofele Kale, SDF Senate.
The senatorial elections held under tight security in parts of the South West region amidst threats from separatist forces in the region forcing the electoral body Elecam to relocate some of the polling stations.
Councillors in Lebialem were airlifted to go vote in the Menoua Division due to the unstable situation that reigned there.
The constitutional council has so far received two petitions for the cancellation of the senatorial election in some regions of the country.
