The Confederation of African Football will take a final decision on whether to maintain or strip off the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hosting rights after the October 7 Presidential election, the body’s President Ahmad Ahmad has said.
The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football met today in Cairo to assess the various reports on Cameroon’s preparations to host the tournament.
Howeve, the body put a hold on any decision regarding the hosting until after the Presidential election to avoid influencing the polls with their verdict.
“We will not make any statement at the moment. We don’t want to influence the (Presidential) campaigns,” Caf President Ahmad Ahmad told French outlet Le Monde.
The Caf boss has on several occasions questioned Cameroon’s ability to host the competition challenging the African Champions to prove they can complete works ahead of schedule.
