Afcon 2019 Live: Benin vs Cameroon

Pierre Kunde Malong has been named Man of the Match.

Benin and Cameroon play out a goalless draw but both sides progress to the next round of the competition. Ghana finish as group winners while Cameroon finish as runners up and will face Nigeria in the round of 16.

Full Time: Benin 0-0 Cameroon.

90′: Oyongo Bitolo goes into the book for a foul on Michael Pote. There will be TWO minutes of added time.

89′: Confusion in the Cameroon defence as a long ball from Benin’s goalkeeper is pounced upon by Sokou but his shot is weak to trouble Sokou.

87′: Cameroon flatter to threaten after probing around the Benin box buut Zambo Anguisssa can’t sort his feet out for a cross and Benin have a goal kick.

83′: Bassogog’s first action is to commit a foul against Adenon who is on the floor holding his ankle as Benin have a free kick in their own half.

81′: Substitution Cameroon: Christian Bassogog on for Toko Ekambi

80′: Cameroon have ten minutes to find a winner as Benin are just happy to waste time. A draw sends them through..

78′:Benin have another interesting free kick but Sessegnon’s ball goes straight into the waiting hands of Onana as Cameroon launch a counter but Oyongo Bitolo’s cross meeets a body of Benin players in the box who clear.

76′: The first action for the substitute is to be get fouled just at the edge of the Cameroon box as Zambo Anguissa is fouled for the free kick. Sessgnon over the ball but hits it straight into the wall.

75′: Substitution Benin: Pote is on for Djigla

71′: Kunde Malong sends a diagonal for Clinton Njie who takes a first time shot which but cleared by the defence. Meanwhile in the other group, Ghana lead by two goals to zero as they go top!

69′: Benin are ccamped into their own half as Cameroon try to find a way through but their passing has been slow to break down the opposition.

68′:Substitution Benin: Soukou replaces Doussou

66′! Kunde Malong releases Clinton Njie on the right but the Marseille striker skews his shot wide.

65′: Substitution Cameroon: Olivier Boumal replaces Arnaud Djoum

63′: Cameroon win the ball just at the edge of the Benin box and Toko Ekambi hits a tame effort that is calmly collected by the goalkeeper. Clinton Njie was free at the far side and that should have been the better option and Toko knows it.

60′: Cameroon have not got going as a series of slow, sideways passes breaks down in midfield and Benin have the chance to counter but Sessegnon is brough down by Bahoken.

58′: Benin have a corner after Joel Dossou’s shot is just deflected wide by the Cameroon defence. The squirrels have been the better side in the last five minutes.

56′: Benin almost cut open Cameroon’s defence but Ngadeu steps in to clear at the last minute and presents Cameroon an opportunity to counter but Toko Ekambi brings down Adenoa and it is a free kick for Benin.

52′: Benin go on the break after Arnaud Djoum looses possession but Yaya Bana steps in to bring down Mounie for a Benin free kick but Cameroon immediately win back the ball. Baraze is booked on the afr side after bringing down Choupo Moting.

-Ghana have taken the lead in the other group game through Jordan Ayew and are now top. Cameroon needs to find a goal quick if they intend to stay top.

48′: This second half has started with almost the same pattern as Cameroon have a free kick on the left side of the Benin box after Baraze brings downd Choupo Moting. Kunde Malong  whips the free kick just over the Benin box.

47′: Bahoken powers his way through into the Benin box but his low cross is cleared by the Benin defence.

46′: We are back for the second half as Cameroon get us going….

Substitution: Clinton Njie is on for Fai Collins

It has been defence vs attack as Benin have sat in their own half looking to catch the Indomitable Lions on the break. Cameroon have have much of the ball but have just one shot on target to show for their sterile possession. See you for the next 45 minutes.

45+1′: Half Time : Benin 0-0 Cameroon

44′:Steve Mounie gets a yellow for a cynical elbow foul. That ccard rules him out of the round of 16 if Benin goes through. There will be ONE minute of added time.

41′: Benin now have a free kick on the right of the Cameroon box as Fai Collins brings down Kiki. The Standard Liege man goes into the referee’s book as Sessegnong steps over to take the free kick which flies over the defenders for a goal kick for Cameroon.

39′: It is now attack versus ddefence as Benin have left the initiative to Cameroon and are trying to play on the break with five minutes left before half tie.

36′: Oyongo!!!!! Just wide Kunde Malong drills a cross that evades all the Cameroon players but falls to Oyongo who was arriving out of the box and the Montpellier man takes a first-time shot that goes just over the box. That would have been some goal there if he managed to direct his shot on target.

34′: Benin are trying to get some joy down the left of the Cameroon defence as they win a corner but Cameroon clear their lines not for long as the ball falls to Steve Mounie, AGAIN!, whose shot goes well off target. The Huddersfield man has not yet found his shooting boots this afternoon

31′: Cameroon win the ball in their on half and try to counter but the ball to Bahoken in the box is cleared by Baraze as Benin too look to counter but Michael Ngadeu is on hand to stop Steve Mounie.

30′: Cameroon now attempt to go long but Kunde Malong’s ball from midfield just has too much pace for Toko Ekambi.

28: Chance for Benin as Stephane Sessegnon drops a free kick into the Cameroon box as the ball ricochets between two Benin strikers and Yaya Banana but Andre Onana is vigilant enough to collect the ball. Slight scare there!

26′:Cameroon are probing the ball around the Benin box and Zambo Anguissa, who has been quiet so far, lifts a beautiful ball for Toko Ekambi but the Villareal man can not bring it into his stride and Benin have a goal kick.

24′: Cameroon just have a slight control of the game now but lack the cutting edge to kill off their moves as Bahoken is played through on goal but his poor first touch forces him wide and he can’t adjust his feet to bring the ball back in his stride and Benin have a goal kick.

22′ Choupo Moting gets an in-swinging corner but the Benin defence clears for another corner but this time Oyongo is the man to take the set piece but his delivery is poor and Benin clear…

21′: Cameroon go close again!!!! Choupo Moting is played in behind the Benin defence as the Cameroon captain strikes just at the entrance of the box but goalkeeper Kassifa parries for a corner.

19′:First booking of the game goes to Arnaud Djoum who brought down Adenon.

18′: At the other end, Benin try to counter fast but Yaya Banana steps in between the ball and Stephane Sessegnon as Cameroon can relaunch play from a goal kick.

17′:Close!!!!! Cameroon take the free kick short as Kunde Malong plays to Oyongo Bito who unleashes a strike that goes just wide off Kassifa’s post.

15′: Cameroon have a free kick as at the edge of the box as Karl Toko Ekambi is brought down by Adeoti. Who can step up for Cameroon?

13′: Steve Mounie wriggles his way between three players but can’t pick the final ball as Oyongo Bitolo steps in to clear.

12′: The free kick from Stephane Sessgnon is weak as Michael Ngadeu clears…

11′: Benin half a free kick deep into Cameroon’s half after Yaya Banana brings down Djoussou. The referee has some talking to do with the defender… this might be his last chance before he gets into the book.

8′: Corner for Cameroon as Kunde Malong whips in a dangerous cross but Benin goalkeeper Kassifa just tips the ball over his bar. The ensuing corner is a waste and Benin have the chance to relanch play.

6′: Djoum releases Oyongo Bitolo on the left who crosses into the box but Toko Ekambi and Stephane Bahoken just get entangled with the ball as it rolls out for a goal kick for Benin.

4′: First chance of the game as Choupo Moting combines with Kunde Malong who releases Fai Collins on the right as the full back puts a pinpoint cross into the box but Toko Ekambi’s header just flies over the crossbar.

2′: Cameroon have some defending to do as they clear a Benin corner early in their half…

‘1 Off we go as Benin are already camped in Cameroon’s half…

-Stephane Sessegnon is the only Benin player in the squad who faced Cameroon the last time both sides met in Yaounde in 2005 during a 2006 World Cup qualifier. The Indomitable Lions won the game 2-1.

-Cameroon have made five changes to their team that faced Ghana on Saturday. In come, captain Choupo Moting, Yaya Banana, Arnaud Djoum, Pierre Kunde Malong and Stephane Bahoken. Out go Kana Biyik, Gaetan Bong, Georges Mandjeck, Clinton Njie and Christian Bassogog.
