The official mascot and anthem of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cameroon come January 2022 have been unveiled and sent to the Confederation of African Football CAF for validation.
This was during a ceremony organized at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex over the weekend and chaired by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
The mascot whose name we already had as Mola, a Cameroonian slang which refers to brotherhood is the work of arts of Felix Fokoua.
It was selected out of the 35 mascot files examined by the AFCON mascot Jury under the supervision of Prof Jean Tabi Manga with an overall average of 22/40.
As far as the anthem is concerned, the jury chose that which was presented by the “Africa Smile” group mostly constituted of children.
They obtained a score of 86.31 on 100.
Both works of arts have been forwarded to the Confederation of African Football, CAF for validation as the country proceeds with preparations ahead of the 33rd edition of the football jamboree to be played form January 9 to February 6, 2022.
As for the draw ceremony to determine the various pools of the competition, it has been scheduled for next month June in Yaounde.
