The African music star was honored for her album dubbed Mother Nature. The ceremony took place last Sunday, April 3.
The prominent Franco-Beninese singer, Angélique Kidjo is one of the honored musicians of the 64th edition of the Grammy Awards. With her Mother Nature album which was released on June 18, 2021, she obtained the World best musical album. She was challenged in this category by Nigerian singer, Wizkid with his album, Legacy+ and Ghanian superstar, Rocky Dawuni with Made in Lagos.
Her album titled, Mother Nature, celebrates and acknowledges the role women plays in our daily activities.
This trophy marks the fifth prize Angélique Kidjo is receiving at the Grammy Awards. Receiving it, she used the opportunity to appreciate the other singers who were involved in the Mother Nature project. Some of them include Yemi Alade, Burma Boy, M. Eazi and Shungudzo just to name a few.
“The last time I won, I said young African musicians will conquer the world. And to all my fans, lovers of music, you are always there whenever we need you. Each time you listen, we go forward. We are all Africans,” said Angélique Kidjo.
Born on June 14, 1960 at Ouidah in Benin, Angélique got her inspiration and developed her talent listening to songs of artists like Miriam Makeba, James Brown, Manu Dibango and Jimi Hendrix.
Besides her distinction, another African was also honored. Black Coffee from South Africa received the prize of Best electronic album.
