AU recruits Swazi soldiers for AMISOM

The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has recruited three soldiers from the Swazi army, the Swaziland Umbutfo Defence Force (USDF).
The three have been working for the peacekeeping mission tasked to support transitional government structures, implement a national security plan, train the Somali security forces and create a safe environment for humanitarian aid.

Swazi army public relations officer Madoda Mkhatshwa confirmed the deployment of the Swazis. He said the date of return of the officers, who are earning a monthly allowance of $1 028 each, will be determined by AMISOM.

AMISOM has trained 20 000 Somali soldiers ahead of the planned exit, which is ecpected to be in 2018, according to a statement made by the AU special representative to Somalia, Francisco Caetano Jose Madeira.
