Bamenda: Governor restricts movement of persons

The Governor of the North West region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, has banned movement of persons from one division to the other in the North West Region.

In a decision signed September 21, Governor Lele Lafrique stated that any person who violates the twenty four hours order from Thursday September  21, to Friday September 22, will face the consequence as provided by the law.

The Governor’s order was made public few hours after a suspected separatist bomb wounded tree police officers in Bamenda’s hospital roundabout. Reports say the bomb was implanted under a tree where the policemen usually rest after inspecting the town.

Following the bomb explosion, Songa Pierre, Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam in the North West region, instituted a curfew. The SDO equally banned all public meetings and events in the region.

Meanwhile, several diplomatic missions in Cameroon including the US embassy have declared Bamenda a no go area. The US Embassy issued a warning yesterday September 21 advising all its citizens resident in Cameroon to watch out and cancel every travel plans to Bamenda untill October 3.
