Botswana improves badminton ranking

Botswana has moved up two places to position five in Africa despite returning home empty handed from the 2017 All Africa Badminton Championships that were held in South Africa over the weekend.The tournament was attended by nine African nations, including heavyweights Egypt, Zambia, and Nigeria.

Team Botswana was made up of Tlholego Chamo, Tefo Kabomo and Tumisang Olekantse who competed in the men’s section; as well as Botho Makubate, Leungo Tshweneetsile and Tessa Kabelo in the ladies group.

In an interview upon their arrival back home, Botswana Badminton national team manager Thuso Mudongo said they intended to play in as many African events as possible to improve their ranking.

He added that the association was working on improving the senior team’s performance and planned to draft in more players.
