Botswana, Italy to discuss renewable energy cooperation

Officials from Botswana and Italy will hold a Renewable Energy Dialogue in the capital Gaborone on 6 July, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism announced on Friday.Ministry spokesperson Daniel Moatshe said in a statement that the dialogue is expected to be attended by government officials from Botswana and Italy as well as renewable energy firms from the two countries, industry experts, academia, media and other stakeholders.

He said the main objectives of the workshop will be to facilitate dialogue towards the development of an enabling environment for private investment on renewable energy in Botswana as well as identifying concrete innovative projects in the country. 

The officials are expected to discuss ways of supporting the promotion of investment and trade agreements in renewable energy between local entrepreneurs and international stakeholders, mainly from Italy.

The workshop would also give those attending an opportunity to demonstrate technical viability of innovative technologies on the sustainable energy and climate change adaption, the official said.
