A 30-year-old woman, who was dumped at the Sandpit neighbourhood in Buea, on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, after her breasts were lacerated by some unidentified persons has undergone a successful surgery.
Speaking to Journalducameroun.com in his Buea office on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, Dr. Nanga Ondoa, Surgeon at the Buea Regional Hospital, who carried out the operation, said the medical exercise was very successful.
According to him, the woman was responding positively to treatment and will be strong and hearty in the days or weeks ahead.
But the surgeon further revealed that apart from the surgery carried out on her, there was need for psychological rehabilitation to be carried out on the woman. Going by the medic, the victim has undergone serious psychological trauma which needs to be rehabilitated.
Dr. Nanga Ondoa said the situation is very essential given that the woman will henceforth be living without some of her very sensitive organs.
It would be recalled that the population of Sandpit in Buea, woke up in the early hours of Wednesday, February 21, 2018, and discovered a young woman who was naked with both of her breasts freshly chopped-off. Those who first saw her thought she was dead, but after going closer to the woman, who had been dumped in the neighbourhood at dawn, they discovered that she was still alive.
At this juncture, element of the Rapid Intervention Brigade were alerted and they came and took the woman to the hospital where she started receiving medical attention. The February 21 incident left many tongues in the South West Regional capital Buea, wagging that the incident was an act of ritual killings.
The happenstance brought back gory memories in the minds of the locals. They remember how on March 14, 2013, the villagers of Wondongo on the slopes of Mt. Fako were left aghast when news broke that a young man, Gabriel Mbonde, has beheaded his own father.
After dismembering his father’s head from the rest of his body, the culprit took the head and headed for the Buea Council before he was caught by the angry population.
After interrogation from the forces of law and order, Mbonde confessed that the person who requested for his father’s head was at the Buea Council waiting for him. But that person, who was reportedly a highly placed personality at the Buea Council, was never apprehended.
