Burkina Faso: Campaign for local elections to kick off Saturday

The electoral campaign for the partial and complementary local elections of 28 May in Burkina Faso starts next Saturday at midnight, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).A total of 20 political parties and groups of independent candidates will take part in the polls, with some 20 constituencies up for grasp, the CENI confirm.

Ahead of the launch of the electoral campaign and in accordance with the provisions in force, the High Council of Communication (SCC) on Friday drew lots of candidates and political parties for their campaign messages on the national broadcasters.

It was at the headquarters of the body in Ouagadougou, in the presence of representatives of political parties and independents candidates.

The partial and complementary municipal elections in Burkina Faso will concern, on the one hand, the municipalities having difficulties in setting up the local executives, following 2016 municipal polls and, on the other hand, the constituencies where the exercise could not be held last 22 May 2016.
