Burkina Faso plans to renew three-year IMF programme

Burkina Faso is planning to renew its cooperation programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) starting in 2018, APA learned from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The three-year programme concluded by Burkina Faso with the IMF through the “Extended Credit Facility” (ECF) expires in September 2017.

As part of the implementation of the National Economic and Social Development Plan (PNDES), the IMF will assist in “putting in place the macroeconomic framework as a whole, as well as put in place an economic framework that allows for more room for investment spending.”

More importantly, IMF’s contribution will strengthen the support of the international community and provide stronger financial support.

In Burkina Faso, IMF activities cover three main areas, including financial support through expanded credit facilities; technical assistance and training; and contribution to monitoring and maintaining macroeconomic stability.
