Burkina Faso is planning to amend its criminal procedure code, a source close to the Justice Ministry has said.Under the Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Civic Promotion, the Council of Ministers on Thursday adopted a bill amending the ordinance establishing the Criminal Procedure Code.
Speaking at the end of a cabinet meeting, the Minister of Communications, Government Spokesperson, Rémi Fulgance Dandjinou, explained that with the creation of specialized courts to tackle terrorism and financial delinquency, it is important that certain provisions are made.
According to him, the provisions to be amended involve the interception of communications transmitted by means of telecommunications, the introduction of provisions for the protection of witnesses, permission for OPJs (judicial police officers).
“The main elements of this bill are the institution of the principle of permanence of the Criminal Chamber. That means it will be held every month,” said Dandjinou.
