Cameroon: Case against detained Ambazonia leaders opens today

The case against ten Cameroon separatist leaders arrested and extradited from Nigeria in January opens today at the Yaounde military tribunal.

Charges against Sissiku Julius Ayuk Tabe, the leader of the Ambazonia movement and nine others would be read  today in open court by a magistrate.

The case finally opens today after a court in Yaounde threw out a petition filed by their lawyers for their unconditional release.

They were later presented before a judge at the military tribunal last week for identification and establishment of charges.

Before today’s session, sources at the Yaounde Central prison where they have been transferred to say the detainees held a meeting with their lawyers on Wednesday ahead of today’s hearing.
