The first lap of the race on Monday afternoon in Garoua was won by Algerian cyclist Islam Mansouri who took on the occasion took the yellow jersey.

The 22-year old cyclist won the criterium in Garoua ahead of the 57 other cyclists in two hours, 28 seconds as he combed through the eight laps of the race without stress.

In the stands at the ceremonial ground in Roumnde Adjia, it was total effervescence from the public that came out in numbers to cheer the cyclists up.

This effervescence was in great part lit up by the Cameroon Telecommunications as they painted the whole place blue with their product Blue. In addition to supporting and sponsoring the race, the incumbent telecommunications operator is making the population live the race through the award of several prizes to the cyclists in various categories. Like the 2021 edition, the incumbent telecommunications operator has pledged to accompany the race as a means to stand by the First Lady, Chantal Biya in her quest to promote sports and cycling in particular.

The second lap of the race will be run on Wednesday, October 5 from Yaounde to Ngonmedzap.
