Cameroon-Covid 19: PCR Test Price Rises To 30.000F

The government will no longer assist the cost of the coronavirus PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test.

It is true Minister Manaouda Malachie said this week, Cameroon has not registered any case of Covid-19 patients. But that does not imply the pandemic has completely disappeared from the country. Notwithstanding that, the government has decided to stop assisting financially with the Covid-19 test. The decision was made public by a correspondence from the presidency Secretary general, minister of State, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.

He says, “it is with due honour that I bring forward the high instructions of the President of the Republic indicating that the PCR test against Covid-19 is for now costly and its price is 30.000 CFA Francs.”

In his letter addressed to the secretary general of the Prime minister office, Minister Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh underscores a persistence of the Covid-19 pandemic and budgetary constraints are some causes of this decision.

In this light, according to the head of State’s prescription, the Presidency secretary general invites the minister of Public Health and that of Finance, to settle out a sure mechanism of PCR test’ payments that will assure a sure management of this measure.

Cameroon joins other countries like Gabon who also recently made the PCR test costly. In Ali Bongo country, the test is costing 50.000 CFA Francs
