Cameroon: Elecam discusses reforms ahead of upcoming elections

The second ordinary session of the Electoral board of Elections Cameroon has taken place in Yaounde as elections approach.

Presided over by the Board Chair Enow Abrams Egbe, Elecam sought to stragise on ways to improve on voter registration as well as inciting voters to the polls, the maintenance of biometric registration kits, better election management.

Elecam has scheduled field trips from the 1-16 July and the Board meeting was an avenue for members to discuss the conduct of this trip.

In addition to examining and adopting the resolutions of the 3rd and 4th ordinary sessions held in September and December 2018, members used Thursday’s session to familiarise with the June 25, 2019 electoral law.

The second ordinary session of the electoral board of Elecam is holding just days after the bill to extand the mandate of Parliamentarians and Municipal Councillors was tabled in parliament. If adopted, Council and Parliamentary elections which were supposed to hold later this year will only take place in 2020.
