National Communication Council has suspended the head of channel Sévérin Tchounkeu, and star presenter of 8pm news cast Cedrick Noufélé Nfonga ,halting programme “droit de réponse” for a period of one month.
It falls on 1 April but is not an April fool’s joke. The decision comes from the National Communication Council NCC, the regulatory body of the social communication sector in Cameroon.
The document signed by the President of the Council Joseph Chebongkeng and made public at the end of the 34th ordinary session of the National Communication Council NCC held on Friday, sets out the reasons for the various suspensions. The promoter of the Blue Channel based in Douala is doubly sanctioned.
Firstly, as a journalist, for “unfounded assertions and accusations during the special programme broadcast on 21 March 2022 on Equinoxe TV” as the director of publication, for broadcasting in the same organ unfounded, insinuating, offensive remarks, and for distorting the truth of facts in the context of the “right TO reply” programme of 27 February and the 8pm television news of 17 March 2022.
Then as director of publication, “for disseminating in the same organ unfounded, insinuating and offensive comments and for distorting the truth of the facts in the context of the ‘right of reply’ programme of 27 February and the 8 p.m. television news of 17 March 2022”, the press release explains.
