Cameroon: Fire consumes shops in Bamenda

At least five shops were on Tuesday evening consumed by fire in Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon, sources have said.

The shops situated around the Foncha street neighbourhood in Bamenda went up in flames just past 6pm before the Army rescue unit and the Mobile Intervention Unit of the Police force stepped in to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but sources said there was huge material damage estimated at millions of francs CFA.

This is the second fire incident in Bamenda in almost two weeks after shops at the Food Market were consumed by fire on the night of November 28.
