Cameroon: France expresses concern about Anglophone crisis

The head of the French diplomatic mission, Jean-Yves Le Drian has expressed worries about the socio-political unrest rocking the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, highlighting France has been urging President Biya to find a lasting solution.

Auditioned Tuesday, May 28, 2019 by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Minister Jean Yves Le Drian took the opportunity to give his opinion on the situation in several countries on the African continent, including Cameroon.

He expressed how disturbed he is about the worsening Anglophone crisis. “In the English-speaking regions of Cameroon, the situation continues to deteriorate. The human losses are more and more heavy” he said.

Jean-Yves Le Drian added that “France, the European Union and the United Nations are doing everything to push Paul Biya to take concrete steps in redressing the crisis.”

The head of French diplomatic mission also said he was “very concerned about the situation of the international jurist and CRM leader, Maurice Kamto. We hope that this important political figure of Cameroon can be released soon” he said.
