Officials of the Ministry of Trade have put in place a toll free number, 1502 to track down contraband businesses gaining grounds in Cameroon.

The number reportedly accessible from Monday to Saturday 24/24 was launched yesterday in Yaounde during a ceremony presided at by Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana.

Instituted following the recurrence of practices linked to counterfeit and contraband observed across the country, the toll free number gives the possibility to consumers to denounce the activities of unscrupulous businessmen anywhere in Cameroon.

According to some members of Consumers Association present at the launch, this initiative is a first step toward the eradication of contraband activities in the country.

Speaking after the launch, Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana urged consumers to help trade officials in the fight against the practice by disclosing relevant information which they believe is in gross violation of consumer rights at market practices.
