Cameroon: Gov’t restricts movement of motorbikes in six divisions in NW Regions

SDO of Menoua has banned the circulation of bikes

The movement of motorbikes has been restricted in six divisions of the North West Regions to contain the recent rise of insecurity in that part of the country.

According to an order signed by the Governor of the North West Region Adolphe Lele LAfrique, “the circulation of motorbikes is henceforth prohibited in Boyo, Bui, Menchum, Mezam, Momo and NgoketunjiaDivisions of the North West Region from 6pm to 5.30 am daily”.

The Governor added that those caught violating this order will have their bikes impounded upon and they will be prosecuted in keeping with the laws and regulations in force.

He however said, the measure does ot apply to motorbikes used for security and medical interventions.

This decision from the Governor comes after the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji accused bike riders in the North West Region of conniving with separatist fighters to carry out atrocities.

Paul Atanga Nji said an identification exercise has to be carried out all over to get the bike riders in the region registered.
