The security situation of the West region will be reviewed this Friday July 23 during a strategic meeting chaired by the Minister of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo who is on a two-day working visit to the region on high instructions of the Head of State, Commander in Chief of the armed forces.
The meeting that will bring together security officials from the West and the neighbouring restive North West follows recent attacks by separatist fighters in some localities of the West region that have claimed the lives of security forces.
Minister Beti Assomo’s visit to the West region is also aimed at taking stock of operations to restore and maintain order and protect civilians and their property against these repeated attacks by separatist fighters.
He is equally expected to The recent separatist attack in the West region was perpetrated not up to ten days ago at a control post in Zavion, a locality in Babadjou, Bamboutos Division. During this attack, two gendarmes were cruelly murdered.
This visit is thus timely as the Defense boss will strategize with his collaborators in the region on ways to maintain order and remobilize his troops to better face security challenges in the part of the country.
Ahead of this two-day working visit, Minister Joseph Beti Assomo arrived in Bafoussam, Chief town of the West region Thursday July 22 and was received by Governor Awa Fonka Augustin alongside top security and law enforcement officials.
