A 49-year-old inmate of the Yaounde Kondengui prison is currently being investigated for allegedly impersonating the Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo to dupe high profile personalities, including the President of Niger.
The suspect whose name we got as Jacques Calvin Eyafa was trailed and arrested last May 5 by elements of the judicial police after an investigation and presented to the press Monday May 10 at the Yaounde General Delegation of National Security.
According to Judicial Police officer, Vincent de Paul Meva, Jacques Eyafa coordinated his scamming activities from the Yaounde Kondengui prison where he has been in detention since July 2019.
The police officer says they were able to get to him following a call he made to Niger’s President to dupe the latter.
Police reports add that after going through his call history slide, they noticed he had made similar calls where he impersonated the Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic and at times the Head of State to extort money from Embassies, diplomatic missions and some UN Agencies assigned to Cameroon, the World Bank and many international businessmen.
By the time he was arrested, the suspect was reportedly expecting a transfer of 300,000 euros, an equivalent of FCFA 195 million from an American Non Governmental Organization.
Jacques Eyafa is currently being investigated, at the end of which he will be presented to the State Counsel where he is expected to answer charges of impersonation.
