The national chairman of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party, CRM Prof Maurice Kamto has made clarifications on the nature of the ongoing “protest” initiated by his party to demand the departure of the Head of State Paul Biya described as insurrection by the Government.
In a tweet posted Monday September 21, the opposition party leader says the demonstrations are a “peaceful expression of exasperation at a Government that hears neither the pleas nor the cries of the people who are suffering terribly…”
According to him, there is nothing insurrectional or terrorist about the demonstrations advanced by the Government, political and civil society activists.
He adds that the freedom of communication, freedom of expression, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of association and the right to protest are guaranteed by the constitution of Cameroon.
The demonstrations kicked off in Douala, Littoral region of Cameroon at exactly 10am Tuesday September 22.
