The Government of Cameroon has included the long awaited rehabilitation of the Municipal Lake in its political capital Yaounde amongst the projects to be realized during the 2021 financial year.
This was made known by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute Wednesday November 25 during the presentation of the economic, financial, social and cultural programme of the Government for the 2021 financial year to the people’s representatives with an overall budget of FCFA 4,865.5 billion.
According to the presentation, among the projects earmarked in the domain of Public Works features the rehabilitation of the Yaounde Municipal Lake.
It is worth mentioning that following two decrees signed by the Head of State authorising the signing of financial conventions with Deutstch Bank S.A.E. to the tune of FCFA 21 billion, a project to embellish the lake was to be completed by 2018.
Two years after, the project which involved the construction of a five star hotel, a restaurant, pleasure parks and the general cleaning of the lake and its surroundings is yet to yield fruits.
In the meantime, the number of people killed by or discovered dead in the water reservoir considered by many as unsafe especially at night keep rising.
