Cameroon: One dies, six injured in helicopter crash in Oku

An air force helicopter crashed Monday May 13 in Oku, Bui Division of the West Region of Cameroon, leaving one police officer dead, and 6 others amongst whom State officials seriously injured.

According to official sources, the aircraft on a command mission had seven persons on board; the pilot, the co-pilot, the flight engineer, the Divisional officers of Noni, Boum and Oku, and a police officer acting public security commissioner of the Noni sub Division.

It crashed at about midday in Oku, leaving the police superintendent and acting public security commissioner of the Noni Sub Division, Victor Ngwe Wiyou dead.

According to a communique signed by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence Joseph Beti Assomo, the other officials on board who were seriously injured were evacuated by air to an identified hospital for appropriate medical care.

Meantime, official sources informed an enquiry has been opened to determine the exact cause of the accident.
