Cameroon: panic in Douala after exchange of gunshots at hotel

Part of Douala was plunged into panic on Monday afternoon after an exchange of fire at the Sawa Hotel in Bonanjo, Douala in the Littoral Region of the country.

The Governor of the Littoral Region Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua has since dismissed the incident as a false alert and called on the population to remain calm and go about their bus:iness with serenity.

Sources at the scene said the false alarm emanated from the arrival of the Mayor of Buea Patrick Ekema Esunge which created a misunderstanding between guards on station and the mayor’s security.

However, the Hotel’s management says some suspected persons attempted to penetrate the premises of the hotel before security forces opened fire and succeeded to apprehend the men.
