Paul Chouta has left the Yaounde Kondengui maximum security prison where he spent close to two years on charges of defamation and propagation of fake news.

The Manager of Le TGV de l’info was released Thursday May 20 following a 23-month prison sentenced slammed on him by the Mfoundi Court of First Instance last Tuesday May 18 in a case that saw more than 25 postponed hearings.

Once out of prison, the blogger reportedly told colleagues that he was prevented from seeing his daughter and family all through his stay in jail.

He has announced a press conference in the days ahead to explain the conditions under which he was treated in prison.

He was arrested on May 28, 2019, detained at the Kondengui Maximum security Prison and denied bail after renowned novelist, Calixthe Beyala filed a complaint against him.

Her complaint is reportedly related to Le TGV de l’info’s posting of a video in which she is seen arguing with a man.
