Cameroon: Program to prevent workplace COVID-19 transmission launched

A clinical program to prevent workplace transmission of the COVID-19 and protecting health workers on the frontline will be launched in the North West Region.

The program will be run by the African NGO, eBase in collaboration with the Johanna Briggs Institute (JBI) in Australia. Both structure in collaboration with the North West Regional Delegation of Public Health will be will be implementing the JBI evidence-based clinical program with the aim of improving quality clinical care for COVID-19 at health district level through audits and feedback.

It is in this light that a team from eBase Africa met with the Regional Delegation for Public Health last week to present the merits of the program.

Presenting the package, the Director of e-Base Africa, Dr Patrick Okwen said they will focus on preventing workplace transmission of COVID-19 through effective approaches to healthcare workers protection and reducing moral distress as well as improving resilience in healthcare workers who have been managing patients during the COVID-19 pandemic in Cameroon.

All these is expected to lead to a better and effective prevention of the COVID-19, as well tailored treatment and staff resilience.

On his part, the Regional Delegate of Public Health for the North West Region, Dr Kingsley Che Soh lauded the initiative as he said it is necessary which stands second in the country with most infection rate of health personnel. He added that the initiative would complement the efforts of response partners who have been working together to improve on the safety of health personnel in their resilience to stop the spread of the virus.
