The Social Democratic Front party bigwig and former Member of Parliament for the Momo Division, North West region of Cameroon, Honourable Joseph Mbah Ndam has passed away, party sources have confirmed.

Though the party is yet to issue an official statement, reports say he died this Monday morning on his way to a medical centre in Yaounde, Centre region of Cameroon after battling with an undisclosed illness for several weeks now.

Honourable Joseph Mbah Ndam was one of the heavyweights of the Social Democratic Front party in Cameroon and he was described by many as a symbol of real opposition.

Some months back, he was victim of an arson attack. His residence in Batibo, Momo Division of the North West region of Cameroon was set ablaze by suspected Ambazonia fighters who had reportedly warned him against taking part in the 2020 Legislative elections.

Nevertheless, this attack did not in any way hinder the politician from taking part in these elections, though at the end of the day, he lost his seat to a CPDM Member of Parliament.

Honourable Joseph Mbah Ndam joined the SDF since its creation and became an MP after the 1997 Legislative elections.

He led the party’s Parliamentary group at the National Assembly for two mandates and was later on replaced by late Hon. Joseph Banadzem.

He equally served as the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly.
