Cameroon: Security forces arrest Pro Kamto blogger

Popular blogger and whistle blower Paul Chouta has spent his second night in detention after he was arrested by security forces in Yaounde on Tuesday, May 28.

Sources say he was arrested around the Biyem Assi neighbourhood in Yaounde by elements of the Judicial Police and has since remained in detention.

Though the reasons for his arrest are not clear for the moment, sources say his arrest is linked to a complaint filed by writer Calixthe Beyala for defamation.

Paul Chouta, who is close to the Cameroon Renaissance Movement of Maurice Kamto has always been at the centre of controvery for his critical stance against the regime in place. He was summoned at the Judicial Police in Douala last year for qustioning but was let go.

Earlier this year, he spent days in the hospital after he was attacked and brutalised by men of the underworld.
