Cameroon: Support staff at state univerties go on strike

Support staff of the eight state universities say they are going on an indefinite strike from Monday to protest against what they term as a violation of their rights.

In a communiqué signed by the President of the trade union of support staffs in all state universities, the striking workers are denouncing attempts by authorities to restrict their freedom of association.

The trade union said it is a right for its members to belong to any association of their choice and any attempt by university authorities to crack down on one of them will be a disrespect to the Labour Code as well aas the Head of State’s decree.

However, they have  trade union called on its members to offer the miminum service possible during the strike action.
