Cameroon: top judge kidnapped in Wum

The President of the Court of First Instance and presiding Magistrate of the Wum High Court, Mr. Tahle Mukete is said to have been kidnapped on the Bamenda-Wum highway on Tuesday, sources have said.

According to security sources, the judge is said to have been pulled out of a passengers’ bus around Mile 37 along the Bamenda-Wum road by armed men who had set up the check point.

He was taken to an unknown destination before eye witness later alerted security forces of the magistrate’s kidnap.

Kidnappings have been a recurrent theme since the escalation of the crisis in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon with administrative officials the target of such acts.

The Divisional Officer of the Menchum valley Lokombe Derek was released on August 7 after spending three nights in captivity following his kidnap by gunmen on the Bamenda-Wum highway.
