Cameroon: Travel and PCR testing Aligning with International Provisions

The Minister of health announced last Saturday in a tweet that the treatment of travellers in national airports will now be done according to the restrictive measures of the destination country.

The health crisis due to Covid-19 has evolved. Around the world, restrictive measures such as mandatory masking or social and physical distancing are increasingly being removed, depending on the contamination curve observed in the respective countries, with the situation varying from one place to another.

Relaxations are increasingly taking place in Europe, Asia and America, unlike a few months ago. According to travel websites such as Routard.com , the PCR test is no longer a requirement in some countries such as Mexico, Jamaica and Tanzania. Several European countries no longer require it, based on established agreements, e.g. in case the traveller is vaccinated and depending on the country of origin.

And that is why, in order to align with these specific provisions of each state, the Cameroonian government has decided to review the standards in terms of travel in the context of Covid-19. On his Twitter account, the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, made himself the messenger of the State with an announcement.

I would like to inform travellers that our teams have been instructed to ask only for the documents required by the country of destination at our airports. If no test is required on arrival, no document will be requested on boarding,” said Minister Manaouda Malachie.

And any traveller who is asked for a document that is not required in his or her destination, will be required to present a copy of the document.
