The U.S. Embassy in Yaounde has prohibited all official travel to Bamenda, chief town of the North West region, until October 3
In a release published on September 21 on the embassy’s website, U.S. citizens are advised to adjust travel plans accordingly due to the potential for unrest in the city.
The release states that demonstrations may take place in Bamenda on Friday, September 22.
“U.S. citizens are advised to adjust travel plans accordingly. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations” the release reads.
US citizens are equally exhorted to review their personal security plans, remain aware of their surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates.
They are equally warned to be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance their personal security.
