The trophy of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, is set to go on tour in the six host cities after arriving in Cameroon last Tuesday, December 7.
The trophy was received by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education boss Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi before it was later presented to the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute.
After touring 18 countries, the trophy reached Cameroonian soil last Tuesday and will sojourn in the country till the end of the competition slated for February 6, 2021.A tour of the trophy in all the host sites of the competition will to start this weekend as announced by the COCAN President. Receiving the trophy last Tuesday, Minister Mouelle Kombi who is also the President of the Local Organising Committee of the 2021 AFCON, said he was particularly elated to welcome the trophy.
The gold plated trophy was brought in a box by the official Mascot of the 2021 AFCON “Mola” accompanied by a delegation of the Confederation of African Football. The Sports Minister also said the desire is that the trophy is retained by Indomitable Lions. A massive crowd mostly dance groups was in the courtyard of the Ministry for the welcoming ceremony.
Also present during the ceremony was the Cameroon Director General of TotalEnergies Adrien Bechonnet who expressed joy as main sponsor of the event to receive the trophy in the host nation. He said they were ready and will take part in the touring of the trophy.
