At least seven persons suspected of belonging to the so-called microbe gang that has been terrorizing several neighbourhoods in Douala have been arrested.
They were arrested last weekend during operations carried in separate locations across the city of Douala.
Last Thursday, elements of the Akwa North Gendarmerie Brigade conducted a number of operations in the Bonangang, Bonamoussadi and Makepe neighbourhoods at the houses of suspected leaders of this gang.
At about 8:00 a.m., houses of the group leaders that were earlier identified in Bonangang and Bonamoussadi were raided. Consequently, a young man aged 26 was arrested and a number of items were seized.
Among the items were a gas bottle, televisions and other electronic gadgets, a dagger and other weapons, as well as several packs of marijuana, tramol and several dangerous substances.
At about 4 p.m. that same day, the operations continued in Makepe, precisely at the Makepe Round-about, where six individuals caught assaulting students of Laval College were arrested. One machete, six clubs and a mobile phone belonging to one of the victims were seized. Seven accomplices as investigations have been opened to track them down.
