The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will be backs to the wall when they face Chile tomorrow in the second leg of the play offs for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after a 2-1 defeat in the first leg.
Nchout Njoya Ajara’s second half strike was not enough as Cameroon as goals from Camila Alejandra Saez (25’), and Carla Guerrero faisait (75’).
The Lionesses found it hard to get going during the first quarter of the game as they resorted to long balls, bypassing the midfield which struggled to stamp its mark on the game.
They finally paid for their lackluster start when centre half Camila Alejandra Saez pounced on a cross at the near post to give Chile the lead after 25 minutes
The Lionesses were lucky to go into the dressing room just a goal down but there was not lucky about the Chileans who had a firm grip of the game and doubled their advantage through Carla Guerrero fifteen minutes from time.
The defender rose highest in the box to connect an inch-perfect header from a Lopez corner to give her side a commanding lead.
However, Nchout Njoya Ajara once again proved to be the go-to person once again and struck back immediately to reduce the deficit going into the decisive game tomorrow.
At the end of the game, head coach Alain Djeumfa rued his side’s lacklustre display at both ends of the pitch and hoped they will be fired up for the second leg.
On her part, defender Camila Saez is now looking to see her side finish off the job in the second leg but warned her team mates of the threat still posed by Cameroon.
“After (Cameroon) scored that goal in the second half we got a little desperate but managed to hold on at 2-1 which was super important,”Saez said.
“We have to keep working, we have another game and anything can happen in 90 minutes,” she added.
