The Head of State Paul Biya has offered 1 billion FCFA as subvention to muslims who will be on pilgrimmage to Mecca this year.
The information was revealed by the Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji during a press conference on Wednesday May 8.
Paul Atanga Nji revealed the Head of State in his magnanimity accorded the subvention to the pilgrims to help cover up the cost of their trip which has increased due to several factors.
The Head of State’s gesture comes after a group of muslim associations met with Paul Atanga Nji on Monday to table their complains and ask for the state’s assistance.
The pilgrims said the increase of the visa fee to 109.000FCFA, internal transport, and the increase of the dollar exchange rate from 590 in 2018 to 630 in 2019, have all made it difficult for some of them to embark on the journey.
“The Heead of State Paul Biya in his legendary and usual magnanimity has heard their cry and has granted a subsidyof 1 billion FCFA to all aspiring pilgrims. This gesture now reduces the pilgrimage cost to the sum of 2.242.000 Fcfa, the price of the 2018 edition,” Paul Atanga Nji said.
The various leaders of the muslim communities thanked the Head of State for his gesture and generosity and promised to support him in his drive to build a peaceful and united country.
