Cameroon:’Paul Biya’s son’ gets two-year jail sentence for defamation


The Yaounde Court of First Instance has slammed a two-year jail term on the Republican Party for defamation.

Georges Gilbert Baongla who has always claimed to be the biological son of Cameroon’s Head of State Paul Biya, was found guilty in the defamation case brought before him by the proprietor of the Anecdote media group, Jean Pierre Amougou Belinga.

Handing down the sentence on Wednesday, June 10 in Yaounde, the court also ordered Georges Gilbert Baongla to pay FCFA 25 million as damages.

Georges Gilbert Baongla has been in detention at the Kondengui Central prison since May 2019 when he was arrested by security forces.
