Cameroon:Preparations gathering steam for Int’l youth day

Preparations are Gearing Up ahead of the commemoration of the International Youth Day on Wednesday, August 12.

This year’s event will be commemorated under the theme “Youth engagement for global action” and in line with this, the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education has lined up a series of activities leading up to the day.

Today, a panel will start reviewing submissions for the best youth initiative competition launched days ago.  The entries from youth across the country consists of a three-minute video which or picture gallery which shows their community engagement, in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The laureates of the competition will be unveiled on Tuesday, August 12 during a videoconference to present and appreciate all the projects submitted.

Today, there will equally be a workshop on youth capacity building and sharing of experiences on the implementation of the sustainable development goals in Cameroon. Experts will and youth animators from the Ministry will also be presenting the various projects and opportunities available to enhance youth employment in the country.

One of such projects is the Youth Connekt initiative whose ambassadors as well as some renowned artistes will be handing out with a select group of youth tomorrow to coach them on creating impact and opportunities in their communities with the resources at their disposal.

All these will lead up to the International Youth Day itself on Wednesday with an official ceremony that would be presided over by the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou.
