Cameroon’s Douala airport partially shuts down

Authorities of the Douala International Airport in Cameroon have announced that the airfield will be shut down partially from today April 10 to April 25 to allow for rehabilitation works.

The shutdown aimed at enabling repairs of the airport’s two runways is estimated to last for two weeks. Scheduled flights to the airport will from Tuesday be re-routed to the Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport in the country’s capital.

According to a communique signed by the airport authorities, flights within this period will be interrupted. The management called on all passengers who already poses flight tickets to visit their various fight agency for a possible deferment.

This is not the first time the 23 year old airport will be shutting its doors for repairs. The first was in March 2016. The airport hosts about 500,000 passengers a year. It has a capacity of one and a half million passengers and fifty thousand tons of cargo per year.
