Top military officials in Cameroon are currently reviewing the security and socio-political situation in the country ahead of the celebration of the 2021 edition of the National Day on instructions of the Head of State, Paul Biya.
The meeting is chaired by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defence, Jospeh Beti Assomo.
According to reports, top on the agenda of this meeting features the situation in the two English-speaking regions where Ambazonia fighters demanding for a separate State have been perpetrating attacks.
It was revealed during the meeting that sporadic attacks with IED from these armed groups have been recorded in their numbers in the regions, meanwhile a good number of them have dropped their arms and a war arsenal recovered.
Talking about this arsenal, the Minister of Defence have indicated that it shall be presented to the national and international public in the weeks ahead.
The security situation in the Far North region of Cameroon with increased Boko Haram attacks was equally on the agenda.
It was revealed that in this region, the Islamic sect constantly perpetrates deadly attacks in the course of which some inhabitants have their property looted and destroyed.
In the Adamawa and North regions, sporadic kidnappings are said to be the order of the day.
At press time, the meeting was still underway, with military officials reviewing the security situation in other regions at the end of which a general report will be drafted and a way forward adopted.
