Cameroon:State Universities prepare start of new academic year

The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo has called on Rectors and Vice Chancellors of State Universities to harness efforts and focus on consolidating the achievements of the shift of public universities towards the digital system during the 2021/2022 school year that is about to start.

He made the call on Tuesday, September 28 while presiding over the University Coordination Commission, UCC that held at the Conference Room of the Higher Teachers’ Training College of the University of Yaounde I.

Opening the meeting, Professor Fame Ndongo hailed the exponential development of the University Digital System thanks to the Presidential Programme called the “E-National Higher Education Network” with the donation of 500,000 computers to varsity students and the construction and equipping of ten University Digital Development Centres.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the implementations of the resolutions of the October 2020 session of the University Coordination Commission as well as projected into the new school year be adopting various resolutions, notably calling on State Universities to consolidate the binomial of distance and face-to-face education. This is to address the constant increase of students which the institutions face.

While urging State Universities to align their performance to the 2020-2030 strategic framework for Higher Education, the University Coordination Commission, recommended to the heads of the institutions to ensure a hitch free take off of the new school year in their respective campuses as well as ensure the consolidation of academic, digital, managerial and social governance in strict compliance with COVID-19 preventive measures prescribed by government.

Before closing the session, the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education extended the encouragements of the Head of State and the Prime Minister to the University community in the fight against the COVID-19 and also praised the heads of the institutions for ensuring the smooth functioning of the previous academic year.
