Candidates turn to Constitutional Council after Elecam rejection

The parliament met in Congress to swwear in members of the Constitutional Council

All eyes are now focused on the Constitutional Council after the publication of the list of candidates retained for the Presidential election yesterday by the elections management body, Elecam.

Of the 28 candidates that applied to run for the Presidential election, nine candidates were retained, 18 files thrown out and one candidate withdrew.

However, if the 18 candidates who have seen their files thrown out want to press with their ambition to run for the country’s top job, they know what to do.

The Electoral Code provides in its Section 129 for candidates to file a petition at the Constitutional Council within 48 hours of the publication of lists by Elecam.

For the moment, no  candidate amongst the 18 has filed a petition though some has already declared their intentions to appeal at the Constitutional Council.
