      About seven people are reported to have lost their lives after a boat capsized in the lake of Lagdo Dam in the Lagdo subdivision, Benoue Division of the North region.

      Repors from the region say the incident occurred in the night of Friday May 7.

      They received their end of course attestations last Wednesday May 5 in a ceremony presided at by the Minister of Public Health, Dr Malachie Manaouda.

    • Cameroon: 3000 new primary school teachers to be recruited

      3000 teachers will be recruited to teach in primary schools all the country in the months to come.

      The information was made known by the Minister of Basic Education, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa at a press conference this Friday in Yaounde.

      Minister Laurent Serge lamented on the increasing absence of teachers at their duty post and said the recruitment aims at solving the problem of inadequate teaching staff.

      This will add to the over 3000 recruited last year.

    • Cameroon: Over 200 babies born in CHRACERH in five years

      Over 200 babies are reported to have been born at the Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery and Human Reproductive Teaching Hospital, better known in its French acronym CHRACERH in the past five years.

      The statistics were given by the Director of the Centre, Prof Jean Marie Kasia on the ocasion of its fifth birthday.

      The hospital was inaugurated by Cameroon’s First Lady, Chantal Biya who is the God mother on May 6 2016.

    • Over 3000 firearms illegally circulating in Cameroon

      The Minister of Territorial Administration has revealed that more than 3000 firearms are currently illegally circulating in Cameroon.

      The revelation was made Thursday May 6 at the end of a meeting with dealers in firearms which aimed at calling the latter to order as concerns the sale of self-defence weapons in the country.

    • Cameroon: Suspected human bones traffickers arrested in Foumban

      Elements of the Foumban Gendamerie have arrested five alleged human bones traffickers in Foumban, a locality in the Noun Division, West region of Cameroon.

      According to reports, these suspects exhumed a grave behind the house of an individual in foumban, removed the bones in order to sell them to potential buyers.

      When the said individual noticed it, he alerted the police who open an investigation which led to their arrest.

      According to official sources, the clashes between the youths and forces of law and order led to one death, and many injured.

    • Cameroon: Former Prime Minister, Achidi Achu passes away

      The death has been announced of Cameroon’s Former Prime Minister, Simon Achidi Achu.

      He died this Tuesday May 4 in USA at the age of 87 following an illness.

      Simon Achidi Achu served as Prime Minister of Cameroon from 1992 to 1996.

      Before his demise, the former PM was member of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement.

      He is the author of the popular saying in pidgin English, “politics na njangi. You scratch ma back i scratch your own.”

    • Cameroon: Suspected drug dealer arrested in Yaounde

      Elements of the Carriere Gendarmerie have arrested an alleged drug dealer at a place called Madagascar market in Yaounde, Centre region of Cameroon.

      The individual was caught selling narcotics at the above mentioned market Monday May 3.

      After questioning, police officers carried out an operation in his house which led to the seizure of an important quantity of drugs worth FCFA 1,000,000, a large quantity of coins worth FCFA 375,000 and banknotes worth FCFA 107,000 as well as packaging used to wrap the drugs.

      The suspected dealer is currently held in custody while waiting his appearance in court.

      Ratings from the Centre for World University rankings indicate 2000 universities were ranked based on their research programmes, quality of lectures and lecturers.
