    • Cameroon: Agbor Balla receives Canada’s 2020 Human Rights award

      The Canadian High Commission in Cameroon has awarded its 2020 Award for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights to rights defender Barrister Felix Nkongho Agbor Balla.

      He received the award from Canadian High Commissioner Richard Bale Thursday December 10 on the occasion of the commemoration of the International Human Rights Day.

      Agbor Balla is an Anglophone Cameroonian human rights lawyer who is the president of the Fako Lawyers Association, vice president of the African Bar Association in charge of Central Africa, founder and chairman of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa

    • Cameroon: Two arrested for impersonating Higher Judicial Council scribe in Douala

      Two men in their forties we got the names as Achille and Jean Jacques are currently under police custody in Douala, Littoral region of Cameroon.

      They are accused of having impersonated the title of the recently appointed Secretary of the Higher Judicial Council, Abel Minko Minko to offer services to some Magistrates and other Government officials.

      Following investigations launched after the later discovered individuals were using his identity to make money, the aforecited were arrested by officials of the Delegate General for National Security.

       

       

    • Cameroon: PM Dion Ngute urges pop to turn out massively to stadia during CHAN

      The Prime Minister Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute has called on Cameroonians to turn out massively to stadia during the 2021 Africa Nations Championship, CHAN the country will be hosting to support the nation.

      He was speaking Thursday December 10 as he was inspecting CHAN infrastructures in Yaounde.

      The competition kicks off on January 16 and ends on February 7.

      Artistes in Cameroon will tomorrow Saturday December 12 elect the Board Chair of the author’s rights corporation, dubbed Sonacam during the corporation’s Elective General Assembly at the Yaounde Conference Centre.

      He passed away Tuesday December 8 after suffering from illness.

      Chief DINA has been on the throne since 2001.

      By the time of his death, he had just been elected Regional Councillor during the Sunday December 6 Regional election in the country.

      A man is currently in police custody after he was arrested with the late father’s bones on his way to sell in the black market in Baleghang, a locality in Bouda, West region of Cameroon.

      According to reports, the case was reported to the police in Baleghang by the elder sister to the man.

      The police got to the place timely enough to arrest him and give back the bones to the family for a re-burial.

      Results of the first ever Regional election organized in Cameroon are expected to be published this Tuesday December 8 in some regions and tomorrow Wednesday for others.

      Vote counting began Sunday immediately after polls were closed.

      According to the electoral code, the results are supposed to be proclaimed withing 72 hours after the closure of polls.

    • Cameroon: 24,000 traditional rulers, Municipal Councillors vote in maiden Regional election

      24,000 traditional rulers and Municipal Councillors have voted for the pioneer 900 Regional Councillors in Cameroon.

      The election took place Sunday December 6 across the country.

      In the Anglophone regions, one Councillor, Encho Elios of the CPDM is reported to have been shot dead in an armored vehicle as his convoy was leaving Momo after he voted in Mbengwi.

    • Cameroon: National Assembly adopts 2021 finance bill

      The National Assembly has finally adopted the 2021 finance bill tabled by the Government last November 25 amounting to FCFA 4,865.2 billion.

      This was during a plenary sitting that started Friday December 4 in the afternoon and ended in the early hours of Saturday December 5.

      The bill will next be forwarded to the Senate for the exercise to be conducted.

    • Cameroon: Intermediate lions return to camp ahead of CHAN 2021

      Coton Sport of Garoua has qualified for the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup after edging Togolese Unisport of Sokode 2-1 in two leg matches.

      During the first leg match played in Togo, Lome last November 29, Coton Sport edged their Togolese counterparts 2-0 and bowed to them with 1-0 during the second leg match played Yesterday Sunday December 6 at the Roumde Adjia stadium in Garoua, Cameroon.

      Despite the loss, the Cameroonian team qualified for the second round of the competition due to their 2-0 win in Togo.

      For their next match, they will face the Green eagles of Zambia.

      It took these members six days to listen to each Minister defend his/her draft budget before the committee came up with an 81-page report.

      The budget amounting to FCFA 4,865.2 billion is about to be adopted by members of the National Assembly.

    • Cameroon/Public Health 2021 provisional budget: Fight against child mortality among top priorities

      The fight against child mortality in Cameroon is among the actions the Ministry of Public Health is set to embark on as far as the 2021 finance budget is concerned.

      This was made known by the Minister of Public Health, Dr Malachie Manaouda Thursday December 3 as he defended his provisional budget amounting to FCFA 197.121 billion before the people’s representatives.

      A new private Television channel specialized in the dissemination of information that educate, teachers, especially those from the Higher Teachers Training College has been launched in Yaounde.

      The channel called School TV Africa  from promoter Paul Eric Kingue who is the current Mayor of Njombe-Penja was launched Thursday December 3.

      Speaking at the launching ceremony, Paul Eric Kingue disclosed that he benefited from a FCFA 20 million presidential largess which helped him purchase the equipment needed.
