      Eight Members of Parliament of the Cameroon Youth Parliamentary Assembly for the African Union have taken an oath to represent their peers at the institution.

      The oath taking ceremony took place this Monday August 2 in Yaounde.

    • Cameroon: NASLA welcomes first batch of trainees

      The first batch of trainees admitted into the National School of Local Administration dubbed NASLA have been told to uphold assiduity and discipline throughout their course.

      The call was made by the pioneer Director of the institution, Tanyitiku Enohachuo Bayee during the official opening ceremony of the first batch of the school.

      The school was set up by the President of the Republic recently to respond to the current sensitive needs of decentralization in the country as well as for the special status granted the North West and South West regions.

       

    • Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Team Cameroon left with two athletes still in competition

      Out of the 12 Cameroonian athletes who went on the Tokyo 2020 expedition, only two are left.

      For now, the country is yet to grab a single medal and all the medal hopefuls have crashed out of the competition.

      Among those still in the race is flag bearer Essombe Tiako Emilienne who will be in action in the 53 kilogram weight range in women’s wrestling on Thursday.

    • Cameroon: National Assembly losses another member

      Cameroon’s National Assembly is once more bereaved. The death has been announced of Hon Ngahane Isaac, CPDM member of parliament for Wouri East, Littoral region.

      The parliamentarian died Sunday August 1 in Douala after suffering from a brief illness.

      He was the President of the National Assembly Committee on Education, Vocational Training and Youths. He death takes to eight the number of MPs to have bowed out during this current legislative year, all from the CPDM.

    • Cameroon: 10th edition of Sago ends in Yaounde

      The 2021 edition of the Fair on Government’s actions dubbed SAGO ended last Saturday in Yaounde.

      The closing ceremony was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication, Felix Zogo on behalf of the Minister of Communication.

      As part of his visit to Cameroon, the former Nigerian States man took part in the 6th graduation ceremony of the Information and Communication Technology, ICT University Saturday July 31.

      During the ceremony, the man who once served as chair of the African Union praised the quality of training offered by the institution to thousands of learners spread across Africa and beyond.

      Artiste Tenor has spent his first night in police custody. He was transferred to the New-Bell prison in Douala late in the afternoon yesterday following an accident he had last July 15 in Douala that led to the death of a student aboard the vehicle he was driving.

    • Total Energy AFCON 2021: Draw ceremony scheduled to take place on August 17

      The draw ceremony of the 2021 edition of the Total Energy African Cup of Nations, AFCON has been set for August 17 by the Confederation of African Sports, CAF.

      The information is contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Local Organizing Committee of the competition, Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Combi dated Wednesday July 28.

    • Cameroon organizes free screening for Hepatitis to commemorate World Day against disease

      Cameroon joins the rest of the world to commemorate the 2021 edition of the World Hepatitis Day.

      World Hepatitis Day is observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and hepatocellular cancer. This year’s theme is “Hepatitis Can’t Wait”.

      There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus – A, B, C, D and E.

      To mark the day in Cameroon, a free screening for the disease is underway at the Yaounde Central Hospital.

    • Cameroon: Minister orders inquiry into leaked health personnel exam

      The Minister of Public Health, Dr Malachie Manaouda has ordered an investigation to be conducted after end of course exams question papers for senior nurses and laboratory technicians leaked.

      Following reports of this leakage, the exam was suspended by Minister Malachie Manaouda who doubles as President of the Jury for the organization of certificate exams in private and public institutions for the training of health personnel.

    • Cameroon: Two young ladies missing in Kribi after receiving strange phone call

      Two young ladies aged 24 and 22 have been reported missing in Kribi, Ocean Division of the South region of Cameroon.

      According to Culture FM radio, they received a phone call from a certain Gael last Saturday July 24 after which nothing was known on their whereabouts.

      The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo is on a two-day working visit to Maroua in the Far North region to monitor operations on the field to protect people and their property and preserve the territorial integrity of the region.

    • Cameroon: Douala City Mayor warns against destruction of traffic lights

      The Mayor of the Douala City Council, Roger Mbassa Ndine has warned the population in his area of command against the destruction or stealing of traffic lights installed in the town.
      In a statement dated July 16, Roger Mbassa Ndine says 15 out of the 34 traffic lights placed at major roundabouts in Douala are non functional because they are either stolen or vandalized.

    • Cameroon: Seven tons of contraband drugs seized at border with Nigeria

      Elements of the Customs Brigade have impounded seven tons of contraband drugs at the Cameroon-Nigeria border.

      The drugs were en route for the Cameroonian market.

    • Cameroon: Boko Haram kills five more soldiers, one civilian in fresh attack in F/N

      Five more soldiers have perished plus one civilian in another attack perpetrated by elements of the Boko Haram islamist sect in Zigue, a locality in the Logone and Chari Division, Far North region of Cameroon.

      The attack was perpetrated last night.

      It comes barely two days after a similar attack left 8 soldiers down and sent 13 to the hospital.

      Out of the 12 athletes representing Cameroon at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan, only 9 are left in the competition.

      After Sarah Hanffou and Wilfried Seyi, Cameroonian boxer Mengue Ayissi of the 63-69 kilograms range crashed out of the competition yesterday after bowing to Irish Walsh Aidan.

      The lone Cameroonian boxer left in the competition is Maxime Yegnong expected to fight Russia’s Veriasov Ivan in heavyweight box.

      75 kilograms range Cameroonian boxer Wilfried Seyi has crashed out of the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after losing to David Tshama of the Democratic Republic of Congo in his first outing.

      The 23-year-old boxer managed to control the first two rounds of the game but lost in the third and last one after receiving uncountable number of punches from his Congolese opponent.

    • Cameroon: President Biya disappoints supporters as he fails to show up in Yaounde as announced after visit to Europe

      CPDM supporters who turned out in their numbers yesterday at the Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport to welcome back home President Paul Biya and wife, Chantal Biya were disappointed as the couple did not show up as announced.

      The Head of State and wife left Yaounde two weeks ago for a short private stay out of the country, part of which was perturbed by protests organized by BAS members in Geneva, Switzerland.
